This Privacy Policy describes how Foodies ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and services.
Information We Collect
Account information: When you register, we collect your email address and password (stored as a secure hash). You may optionally provide a display name, username, and profile photo.
Google sign-in: If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and profile photo from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
Usage data: We record interactions with recipes — including recipe views, saves, searches, and click-throughs to creator sites — to personalize your feed. We also record boards you create and recipes you save.
Device and browser data: We collect standard server log data including IP address, browser type, and pages visited.
Cookies: We use a feed_seed cookie to provide a consistent browsing experience. We also use cookies required for authentication.
Analytics cookies: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often you visit, which pages you view, and what site you came from. This data is aggregated and anonymized — we do not use it to identify individual users. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Advertising cookies: We may display ads served by third-party advertising partners. These partners may set cookies or use similar tracking technologies to deliver ads relevant to your interests based on your browsing behavior across websites. You can manage ad preferences or opt out through your browser's cookie settings or industry opt-out tools such as the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out.
How We Use Your Information

- Prevent abuse and spam (via Cloudflare Turnstile bot protection on sign-up forms)
- Analyze usage trends to improve the service
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Service providers: Cloudflare (image hosting, bot protection), Google (OAuth sign-in, analytics), our email provider, and advertising partners — only to the extent needed to operate the service
- Advertising partners: Third-party ad networks may receive cookie identifiers and browsing data to serve relevant ads. They do not receive your name, email, or account information from us
- Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users
Your public profile, boards, and saved recipes (if public) are visible to other users. Private boards are visible only to you.
Advertising
Foodies may display advertisements from third-party advertising networks. These ads help support the platform and allow us to keep Foodies free to use.
Ad networks may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Foodies and other websites. This is sometimes called "interest-based" or "personalized" advertising. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting your browser's cookie settings or using industry opt-out tools:
Opting out does not remove ads from the site — it means the ads you see may be less relevant to your interests.
Storage and Security
Authentication tokens (JWTs) are stored securely: the short-lived access token is kept in memory only and never written to disk, while the refresh token is stored in an httpOnly cookie that JavaScript cannot access. Passwords are stored as secure hashes — we never store your password in plain text. All data is transmitted over HTTPS.
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information, but no system is perfectly secure. Please use a strong, unique password for your account.
Your Rights
- Access and correction: You can view and edit your profile information at any time from your profile settings
- Deletion: You can delete your account by contacting us at info@foodies.com
- Opt out: You can browse recipes without an account. Without an account, we do not collect personal information beyond standard server logs
Children's Privacy
Foodies is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of Foodies after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
